NewCold announces $500 million Phase 3 expansion in Lebanon, its largest project worldwide

NewCold cold-storage facility in Lebanon, Indiana

LEBANON — Refrigerated logistics company NewCold announced a Phase 3 expansion at its Lebanon facility on February 27, a project the company says is its largest worldwide by both capital investment and total square footage.

Investment and jobs

The expansion is expected to generate more than $500 million in capital investment and create over 200 permanent positions, including warehouse operations, maintenance, logistics coordination, and supervisory roles. The new building will feature automated storage and retrieval systems for sub-zero temperature food storage.

The Phase 3 project follows more than $300 million in earlier investment across NewCold’s first two phases at the Lebanon campus, including the 2024 opening of Phase 2, which doubled the original facility’s capacity.

“NewCold’s third expansion in Indiana is a testament that global companies can build a robust operation here,” Indiana Governor Mike Braun said. “With a central location, a skilled workforce, and a committed community, NewCold has all the tools and resources needed to serve its customers and succeed here in the center of the U.S.”

Lebanon Mayor Matt Gentry said the expansion reinforces the city’s role in supply-chain logistics. “Lebanon continues to prove that we are a premier destination for global innovation. NewCold choosing our city for its largest project worldwide is a testament to our strategic location and our commitment to fostering a pro-business innovative environment.”

Supporting infrastructure

Beyond the facility itself, NewCold is investing in supporting infrastructure, including a new electrical substation for the surrounding business park and road extensions intended to improve access for the broader area, according to the announcement.

NewCold, founded in 2012, is now the world’s third-largest refrigerated food logistics provider.
